Arielle Golden for Encinitas City Council, District 3

Meet Arielle

I am a passionate Encinitan, MBA and community organizer who has championed our local interests through the perspective of food and agriculture. I have led major efforts to strengthen food security both in our region and globally, and during my tenure oversaw a 57% increase of charitable food programs in our region. My work as the elected chair of the North County Food Policy Council united nearby cities, nonprofits and private entities to build a more cooperative and resilient food system. As our representative on the California Food Policy Council, I made sure North County’s priorities were heard at the state level.

In the private sector, I brought together plant-based manufacturers and distributors to increase sustainable production worldwide. I enjoy the challenge of engaging in a room filled with different perspectives, negotiating and listening to create solutions that work.

I am running for Encinitas City Council to represent District 3. I am committed to fighting for our community needs, listening to the voices of all neighbors, and improving our quality of life.

Priorities

  • Managing Growth

We have all seen the new housing complexes popping up around the city. With new neighbors moving in, we need to plan in order to prevent strain on our infrastructure, design to keep traffic flowing, and preserve our treasured community spaces. Proactively managing our growth will protect our equity, boost affordability in our area, increase investments in local businesses, and allow us to stay focused on preserving our community character.

  • Age-Friendly Lens

Prioritizing an infrastructure design that is welcoming and safe for all ages and abilities will strengthen our community for generations. Our streets and public spaces will be safer for you and all of our neighbors when we have flowing traffic, better crosswalks and bike lanes, more walkability and better access to our network of schools, businesses, beaches, and parks.

  • Climate Resilience

Our city needs to take decisive action in the face of a changing climate, to protect ourselves and our wonderful coastline. I will assess each decision based on a climate framework.

Why I’m Running

Becoming a parent grounded me in our community like nothing else had before. I became so aware of it all: Which sidewalks had accessible ramps? Which parks felt welcoming to all? Which routes had separated bike lanes where I could feel safe transporting my children? At the root of these observations came the question we all ask ourselves, how does living in this town shape who we become? While taking time from paid work to care for my children, I have focused my involvement as a local volunteer, organizing around reproductive justice, assisting newly arrived and local families who need support and advocating for policy changes that allow us all to thrive.

Encinitas deserves better than an approach fixated on our past. I will make decisions focused on our future while honoring our community character. Let’s turn the tide.
